Washington Capitals Awards Watch

A franchise best 121 points in the regular season may be followed by individual accolades for several members of the Capitals organization.

  • Captain Alex Ovechkin reached 50 goals for the fourth time in five season and notched career highs in both assists (59) and plus/minus (+45). He has been nominated for the Hart Memorial Trophy, voted by the media as the "player adjudged most valuable to his team," and the Ted Lindsay Award (formerly known as the Lester B. Pearson Trophy), an an award voted by the Player's Association and given to the league's most outstanding player. Ovechkin is vying for his third straight sweep of the two awards.
  • Defenseman Mike Green led all NHL defensemen in goals (19), assists (57), and points (76), and finished second in plus/minus (+39) while averaging 25:29 of ice time per game. For the second consecutive year Green has been nominated for the James Norris Memorial Trophy, awarded to the "top defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-around ability in the position."
  • General Manager George McPhee is a finalist for the first annual GM of the Year Award, having constructed a team that went 54-15-13 (121 points), winning the President's Trophy for the best record in the NHL.
