Orioles Overcome Three Run Deficit, Hand Nationals Fourth Straight Loss

Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - Miguel Tejada knocked in the winning run with a two-out single in the eighth inning, as Baltimore came from behind for a third straight day to upend Washington, 4-3, and wrap up their three-game interleague set.

Tejeda finished with two hits, and Adam Jones and Scott Moore also drove in a run each for the Orioles, who have won a season-high four straight games, including one-run decisions in each game of the just-completed sweep of the Nationals.

David Hernandez (3-6) earned the win by striking out both batters he faced to finish off the eighth inning for Baltimore, which completed interleague play at 8-10. Alfredo Simon worked a scoreless ninth to preserve the win and earn his ninth save.

Tyler Clippard (8-5) suffered the loss for a second straight day after yielding the decisive run on three hits and a walk in his lone inning of work for the Nats, who have lost 20 of their last 24 road contests.

Washington starter Luis Atilano lasted seven innings to match the longest outing of his career, giving up three runs -- two earned -- on five hits while striking out three.

Clippard opened the eighth inning on the hill for the visitors and yielded a one-out double to Julio Lugo but appeared to have caught a break when the veteran shortstop was picked off for the second out.

Corey Patterson then doubled and scored the decisive run when Tejada singled into center field. The Nats walked Nick Markakis intentionally before Ty Wigginton popped up to end the frame.

Pinch-hitter Willie Harris drew a one-out walk in the ninth but Simon set down the next two hitters to close the game.

Ryan Zimmerman drew a leadoff walk in the fourth and scored with one out when Josh Willingham tripled past a diving Jones in center field for the Nats' first hit of the game. Roger Bernadina then belted an opposite field home run to left to make it a 3-0 game.

Luke Scott doubled with one out in the fifth and scored when Jones followed with a two-base hit to trim the lead to 3-1. Matt Weiters and Moore produced consecutive singles to deliver Jones to draw the Orioles within one. Lugo grounded into a force at second but Adam Kennedy's throw to first to try to complete the double play sailed past the bag allowing Wieters to score to tie the game.

Birds' starter Jeremy Guthrie was lifted after six frames during which he gave up three runs on three hits and four walks, while fanning four. He has gone six straight starts since his last win.

Will Ohman opened the eighth on the hill for the Birds and gave up back-to- back singles to Kennedy and Zimmerman before Adam Dunn struck out and Hernandez was called on to try to squelch the rally, which he did.

The right-hander fanned Willingham and Bernadina on six pitches to end the threat.
