Malcolm Kelly Cited For Three Misdemeanor Traffic Violations

Malcolm Kelly has been injured through most of training camp, but he was healthy to practice today. But he didn't, and this time, it wasn't because of his hamstring.

Rick Maese of the Washington Post is reporting that Kelly didn't practice because he had to answer to three misdemeanor traffic charges in Fairfax County court. 

Cited for erratic lane change in Herndon on July 7, Kelly faced a $200 fine that was past due, according to court records. He also was cited for not having a driver's license during that same traffic stop.

Kelly also had to answer to a charge from a previous traffic stop. In April, he was cited for failing to obey a highway sign. He didn't show up for a May 13 hearing on that charge. During that same stop, he was cited for driving with a suspended or revoked license, which was settled nolle prosequi, which means charges will not be pursued at this time.

Maese later clarified to say Kelly's court date actually was scheduled for Wednesday and that it remains unclear whether he was actually in Fairfax County court this morning. Mike Shanahan said Kelly had to tend to a personal matter.

This is not the first time Kelly has had a driving citation, as he has been cited twice for speeding, twice for ignoring highway signs and once for driving with a tinted windshield in the last 18 months. 

Incredibly, Kelly is the third Redskins player in the last 24 hours to have to deal with a traffic violation. Trent Williams was ticketed for reckless driving earlier this week, and Fred Davis missed part of practice yesterday because he plead guilty to two misdemeanor moving violations.
