T.J. Houshmandzadeh Spurns Redskins, Signs One-Year Deal With Ravens

One day ago, it looked like recently released Seahawks receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh would be in play for the Redskins. Considering the Redskins' weakness at wide receiver, Houshmandzadeh would have made a lot of sense.

But as it turns out, Houshmandzadeh will not be coming to D.C. ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that he's decided to sign a one-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens instead.

Ravens reached agreement with former Seahawks wide receiver TJ Houshmandzadeh on a one-year, $855,000 deal.

It didn't initially look like the Ravens were on Houshmandzadeh's radar, but that obviously changed quickly.

Report: T.J. Houshmandzadeh Deciding Between Redskins, Raiders

It's looking more and more like there's actual fire to the rumors of T.J. Houshmandzadeh coming to D.C. The recently released Seahawks receiver has reportedly narrowed down his choices to the Redskins and the Raiders, according to this report by Danny O'Neil of the Seattle Times.

Houshmandzadeh has not returned messages since being released by the Seahawks and becoming an unrestricted free agent. His decision on where to play next season appears to be narrowing down to either Oakland or Washington, according to a source who had spoken with him.

Houshmandzadeh is owed $7 million this season automatically, but the Seahawks are responsible for paying him the difference between $7 million and whatever he would make for another team.

At 32, Houshmandzadeh has clearly lost a step from earlier in his career. He led the Seahawks in receptions last season, but he did not look nearly as explosive as he did with the Cincinnati Bengals. That said, Houshmandzadeh would immediately fill a need across from Santana Moss, and he will likely come cheap for the Redskins.

Update

T.J. Houshmandzadeh Released By Seattle

According to Jay Glazer, Seattle has released their veteran wide receiver,

TJ Housh has officially been released by seattle. As expected no trade partners

Surprising that Seattle could find no one willing to trade for Housmandzadeh as there appeared to be a lot of interest in the wide receiver.

This move opens the door for any team, including the Redskins, to sign the former all-pro wideout.

Original Story

T.J. Houshmandzadeh Linked To The Redskins

It's no secret that the Washington Redskins could still use some help at wide receiver. With Santana Moss as the team's clear No. 1 receiver, the Redskins have very little depth behind him.

According to Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network, that could be changing very soon. 32-year old T.J. Houshmandzadeh is expected to be released by the Seattle Seahawks tomorrow if they are unable to find a willing trade partner (which is unlikely due to his high price tag), and he has already been linked to the Redksins according to La Canfora's report.

The 10-year pro had just over 700 yards in each of his past two seasons, but had over 1,000 yards in 2006 and 2007 with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Many analysts were already expecting the Redskins to have their eyes on the waiver wires in search of a veteran wide receiver this week. Now they have a name to target.
