NFL Depth Charts: Terrence Austin, Ryan Torain Reportedly To Be Placed On Redskins Practice Squad

Rookie wide receiver Terrence Austin is a guy we've discussed a lot here on SB Nation D.C., because he's one of those players who was squarely on the roster bubble. A seventh-round draft pick this year, Austin has displayed a little bit of everything, whether it's crisp route-running, special teams play or punt returning. 

In the end, though, the Redskins didn't quite think highly enough of him to place him on the active roster. Austin's agent just told 106.7 The Fan that Austin has been assigned to the practice squad, according to Scott Jackson.

Running back Ryan Torain, who also turned some heads during training camp, will also be placed on the practice squad, according to Jackson. 

Both players must clear waivers first before they can officially be placed on the practice squad. The practice squad is open to eight players who do not take up roster spots and only practice with the team. Those players are free to sign with other teams to go on their active rosters, but they must sign within six days of a game (or ten days if teams have a bye).  As for waivers, SB Nation's Chiefs blog Arrowhead Pride has a good summation of how they work here. 

This news is good for Brandon Banks and Keiland Williams, two players who were on the bubble for the active roster. They were fighting for a spot with Austin and Torain.
