Today may not be a huge day for sports in terms of games that actually mean something, but it sure is a huge day for exhibition games. The NHL and the NFL will have their respective all star games today, with the NHL all star event at 4pm, and with the NFL's Pro Bowl at 7pm tonight.↵
Although the games are ultimately meaningless, it would still be nice to see some D.C. sports stars have a good showing today.
In the NHL, Washington has Mike Green and Alex Ovechkin representing the Capitals, and with Ovi winning the Breakaway Challange last night, he has already gotten Washington off to a good start. Today could be an even bigger day if Ovechkin or Green are able to provide some highlight plays in the game.↵
In Hawaii, three starters from the NFL's 31st ranked defense will take the field. Brian Orakpo, DeAngelo Hall and London Fletcher (who join Chris Cooley as the charismatic player correspondent) will represent the burgundy and gold this evening when the NFC all stars face the AFC .↵
With three starters from the same defense playing this game, there should be plenty of opportunities for these players to make an impact. Hall was among the league leaders in interceptions, and could have a big day if he can get his hands on the ball. Orakpo will be a starter in this game, as Lance Briggs was unable to make it to the game due to injury. Fletcher, as we know, has been on the most consistent performers in the league at his position for quite some time.↵
Between these two games, hopefully these D.C. stars make the hometown proud, even if it's just in an exhibition game.
