The Navy Midshipmen rebounded in the second quarter forcing San Jose State to punt the ball. Quarterback Kriss Proctor and the Mids triple option then took the football right down the field thanks to runs by Proctor and slotback Gee Gee Greene. San Jose State retook the lead on their next drive however, going down the field in 10 plays and 80 yards to score. Quarterback Matt Faulkner hit on some key passes, including a 24-yard pass on 2nd and 18. Brandon Rutley punched the ball in from the 1-yard line for the 17-14 lead. Two drives later, San Jose State added another field goal to push their lead 20-14 before halftime.
