George Mason Vs. Albany: Ryan Pearson Leads Patriots To Second Straight NIT Consolation Win

The George Mason Patriots put together another solid defensive performance on Tuesday night en route to a blowout win, their second in as many nights. Mason handled an overmatched Albany team in the second game of the consolation round of the preseason NIT at the Patriot Center. Last night, the Patriots were aided by Brown's woeful shooting from behind the arc and that was once again the case tonight against Albany, as the Great Danes went a miserable 2 for 23 from three point range for a mind boggling 9% from downtown.

GMU was led again by senior Ryan Pearson who's been nothing short of incredible through the first six games of the season. Pearson, averaging 20+ points per game coming into tonight, added another 24 against Albany, shooting 11 of 18 from the floor. In addition to averaging 20 and 10 a game, he's also shooting a staggering 57% from the field in this young season. He's continually had his way with opponents in the lane, and Tuesday was no different.

Helping out Pearson was senior frontcourt mate Mike Morrison, who had his best game of the season. Morrison chipped in with 13 points and 9 boards, combining with Pearson to dominate on the interior.

After cleaning up at home in the NIT consolation games, Mason will now enjoy more than a week off, with the Bucknell Bison visiting the Patriot Center next Wednesday.

George Washington Vs. Austin Peay Final Score: Colonials Stave Off Governors, 54-52

George Washington won its second game in as many days in the Progressive CBE Classic by holding off the winless Austin Peay Governors, 54-52, Tuesday afternoon from the brand new Stroh Center on the Bowling Green University campus. After beating a quality Detroit team in the tournament opener on Monday, George Washington struggled against Austin Peay. They shot just 39.6 from the floor, converted just seven of their 12 free throw attempts, and turned the ball over 16 times compared to just 10 for Austin Peay.

The win, despite being less than impressive, improved the Colonials' record to 3-1. Not a bad start to the Paul Hewitt era at GW. Aaron Ware led all Colonials scorers with 12 points. Tony Taylor added 11 points, but needed 12 field goal attempts to get there. TyShawn Edmondson of the Governors led all scorers with 17 points.

The Colonials will round out their participation in the CBE Classic with a Wednesday game against host Bowling Green. The Falcons won their opening game against Austin Peay, and are set to tip off against Detroit early Tuesday evening.

George Washington Vs. Detroit: Colonials Get Quality Non-Conference Win Against Titans in CBE Classic

After more than a week off, the George Washington Colonials bounced back from their loss to Cal and beat an athletic Detroit Titans team in the opening game of the Progressive CBE Classic. The game took place at Bowling Green's brand new Stroh Center, and saw the Colonials race out to a 17 point first half lead. GW struggled to score in their first two games of the season but that was not an issue against Detroit, as they put 45 points on the board in the first half. Three point shooting was largely responsible for the Colonials' offensive efficiency, as they hit 9 of 15 attempts from downtown.

Senior Tony Taylor was a big part of their success from behind the arc, as he drilled all four of his attempts from long range en route to a game high 22 points and team leading 6 assists. In addition to being perfect from three, Taylor was also perfect at the free throw line and only missed one shot all night. It was an amazingly efficient performance, as his 22 points came on only 9 attempts from the floor. He was all over the place and had a great floor game against the Titans' three guard offense. His backcourt mate, Lasan Kromah, chipped in with 17 points and hit three of his five attempts from downtown as well.

It was an impressive win for Mike Longeran's squad, as Detroit is a very athletic and talented team that is expected to compete for an automatic bid in a deep Horizon League that includes Butler and Cleveland State. GW comes right back on Tuesday to face the Governors of Austin Peay in their second game of the CBE Classic in Ohio. Tip time is scheduled for 5:00 PM.

George Mason Vs. Brown: Patriots Bounce Back With Blowout Win Over Bears

After an overtime upset loss to Florida Atlantic over the weekend, the George Mason Patriots got back on track Monday night with a 74-48 blow out NIT win over the Brown Bears. Mason's Ivy League opponent was overmatched from the jump, as the Patriots raced out to a 16 point first half lead. The Bears shot a horrendous 20% from three, hitting only five of their 25 attempts on the night. Paul Hewitt's defense, which has been a concern over the first two weeks of the season, held the Bears to just 33% from the field.

The Patriots were once again led by Senior Ryan Pearson, who maintained his 20 plus point per game average on the season, filling it up with 23 points for Mason. Pearson had an incredibly efficient game down low, hitting 9 of 14 attempts while draining two of his four three point attempts outside. With Pearson and Mike Morrison, the Patriots were simply too much up front for the Ivy Leaguers and out-rebounded the Bears by ten.

Mason improves to 3-2 on the season and will come right back on Tuesday night to face an Albany team that defeated Monmouth on Monday at the Patriot Center in the opening round of the preseason NIT. Tip time is scheduled for 7:30 in Fairfax.

George Mason Vs. Brown Score Update: Patriots Take 16 Point Halftime Lead Over Bears

The George Mason Patriots raced out to a 16 point halftime lead over the Brown Bears on Monday night. The Patriots' defense, lacking through the first four games of the season, held the Bears to just 21 points. Largely responsible for that anemic offensive production is Brown's woeful three point shooting, as they hit just three treys on an astonishing 15 first half attempts. Mason held Brown under 30% from the field overall and forced 8 turnovers.

On offense, the Patriots were once again led by Ryan Pearson. The senior, who is averaging 20 points a game in this young season, got up nine shots against the ivy league opponent and finished the half with 12 points. Defensively, the forward ramped up the pressure against Brown's overmatched frontcourt and added three steals and six defensive rebounds.

Mason is looking to bounce back after being upset by Florida Atlantic in overtime on Saturday. After one half at the Patriot Center, the Ivy League could provide just that fodder for Paul Hewitt and Mason.
