George Washington Vs. Detroit: Colonials Get Quality Non-Conference Win Against Titans in CBE Classic

After more than a week off, the George Washington Colonials bounced back from their loss to Cal and beat an athletic Detroit Titans team in the opening game of the Progressive CBE Classic. The game took place at Bowling Green's brand new Stroh Center, and saw the Colonials race out to a 17 point first half lead. GW struggled to score in their first two games of the season but that was not an issue against Detroit, as they put 45 points on the board in the first half. Three point shooting was largely responsible for the Colonials' offensive efficiency, as they hit 9 of 15 attempts from downtown.

Senior Tony Taylor was a big part of their success from behind the arc, as he drilled all four of his attempts from long range en route to a game high 22 points and team leading 6 assists. In addition to being perfect from three, Taylor was also perfect at the free throw line and only missed one shot all night. It was an amazingly efficient performance, as his 22 points came on only 9 attempts from the floor. He was all over the place and had a great floor game against the Titans' three guard offense. His backcourt mate, Lasan Kromah, chipped in with 17 points and hit three of his five attempts from downtown as well.

It was an impressive win for Mike Longeran's squad, as Detroit is a very athletic and talented team that is expected to compete for an automatic bid in a deep Horizon League that includes Butler and Cleveland State. GW comes right back on Tuesday to face the Governors of Austin Peay in their second game of the CBE Classic in Ohio. Tip time is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
