After crushing cross-state rival Virginia on Saturday afternoon, the Virginia Tech Hokies clinched the ACC's Coastal Division and a spot in this week's ACC Championship game against Clemson. With LSU blowing out Arkansas on Friday afternoon of the holiday weekend, the Hokies were also likely to move up a spot in the USA Today Coaches Poll. And that's exactly what transpired when the Week 14 Poll was released on Sunday. The Hokies are now only ranked behind LSU and Alabama - with those two SEC West schools prohibitive favorites to rematch in a National Championship game.
After a brief one week appearance, the Cavaliers fell out of the poll after the blowout loss to the Hokies. Georgia Tech joined the 'Hoos as the second team to tumble from the poll after losing to a state rival. Clemson remains, which held on and slipped to the 21st spot after losing to rival South Carolina. Florida State re-entered the poll at number 24 based on their win over the Florida Gators at the swamp.
