Capitals Hire Jim Johnson As Assistant Coach, Fire Bob Woods

The Caps have made their second coaching change in as many days, hiring Jim Johnson as an assistant coach.

Nov 29, 2011 - The Washington Capitals made their second coaching change in as many days Tuesday, hiring Jim Johnson to replace Bob Woods as an assistant coach.

Johnson most recently spent time with the Tampa Bay Lightning organization as an assistant coach with the NHL club and the head coach of their AHL affiliate, the Norfolk Admirals. He is also a former Cap, having played parts of three seasons with Washington from 1993-1996, playing in 121 games and earning 19 points (2 goals, 17 assists). He is a veteran of 829 NHL games.

Monday, the Caps hired Dale Hunter to replace Bruce Boudreau after four seasons. Woods, Boudreau's successor in AHL Hershey, was in his third season as assistant coach. Dean Evason will remain on the bench alongside Hunter and Johnson.

Johnson will be at Kettler Capitals Iceplex Wednesday for the Caps' next practice.
