MLB Free Agency: Mike Rizzo Discusses Chien-Ming Wang Re-Signing, Other Pitching Options

Washington Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo held a conference call with reporters to announce the team's decision to re-sign Chien-Ming Wang to a one-year contract. Rizzo said that he wanted to give Wang a team option for 2013, but his representatives were not inclined to accept that. Therefore, they both settled on a one-year deal. Via Amanda Comak of the Washington Times.

"(Wang) wants to prove that he's a healthy pitcher and get back in the market and be a free agent as a healthy starter with a full healthy season under his belt," Rizzo said. "I would imagine we would get first run and the best chance of signing him if in fact that situation came about."

Rizzo added that, with the return of Wang and the other young pitchers in the organization, he feels good about the pitching depth. However, he said the team is still looking for another innings-eater. Mark Buehrle of the Chicago White Sox is a name that has popped up a number of times.
