National Signing Day 2011: Tracking Maryland, Georgetown Basketball's 2012 Commitments

Wednesday is the first day that basketball recruits can officially put pen to paper on their commitment, these are the players that could officially commit to area schools today.

Today is the opening of the early signing period for NCAA Basketball teams, which means that it is the first day that recruits can officially pledge their allegiance to the school they intend to go to. Until now they were only able to verbally commit, which is pretty solid but does not constitute an actual agreement to go to the University. Here are some of the players we could see officially commit to area schools this afternoon.

Georgetown currently has two players that have verbally committed, headlined by 5-star point guard Da-Vauntes Smith-Rivera from Oak Hill Academy in Virginia. They also have a 3-star center from South Carolina named Brandon Bolden.

Maryland has three commits so far. Seth Allen, an unheralded point guard from Virginia, was Mark Turgeon's first recruit as the head coach of the Terrapins. Since then he has roped in 4-star center Shaquille Cleare and 3-star small forward Jake Layman.

George Mason has only one official recruit so far, a 3-star point guard from Fairfax named Patrick Holloway.

Very few players make their college decisions on signing day like they do in football, but it does mean that those who have committed can officially put pen to paper.
