Capitals Vs. Jets: Mike Green Plagued By 'Significant' Groin Injury, According To George McPhee

Mike Green has been suffering from a groin injury, but general manager George McPhee said Wednesday that the injury has taken longer to heal than expected.

Via The Washington Post's Katie Carrera, Washington Capitals defenseman Mike Green's groin injury is "significant" and that recovery is taking "longer than we expected," according to general manager George McPhee.

Green, who suffered a strained right groin muscle November 11 against the New Jersey Devils, has not been at Kettler Capitals Iceplex this week and is out of town to see a specialist. Yet, earlier this week, head coach Dale Hunter did not elaborate on what kind of specialist it is and where he or she is located.

While Hunter did admit this week that Green will join the Caps on their two-game road trip Thursday and Saturday in Winnipeg and Colorado, he did not disclose where. McPhee, however, said that Green will join the team in Denver:

"He'll be joining the club on the trip," McPhee said. "We just sent him to see somebody that might be able to help, we're not sure [if it will]. Hopefully when he joins the club on the road he'll be skating with the club - getting closer.

"He was progressing then sort of plateaued," McPhee said. "We thought we would try something else. Don't know if it will make a difference but we'll know more in a couple of days."

Green has played in only eight games this season with the groin injury and a twisted right ankle.
