The 2011 Army-Navy Game was one of the most hotly contested in a while, but in the end, the team that has dominated recently won again. Navy hit two fourth-quarter field goals and stopped Army when it counted to get a 27-21 win, their 10th straight in the rivalry.
Navy hit a short field goal to take a 24-21 lead early in the fourth quarter, then Army committed a major blunder by fumbling the kickoff. Navy got the ball back and was stopped by the Army defense, but Jon Teague, who has struggled all season, just barely nailed a 44-yard field goal to give Navy a 27-21 lead.
Army marched the ball down the field on the ensuing drive, but the drive stalled at Navy's 25-yard line. The Black Knights went for it on fourth and seven, and Trent Steelman was sacked. Navy took over on downs worked it to midfield before going for it on fourth and inches. On the play, Navy went with a hard count and linebacker Bryce French bit, sealing the win for Navy.
Kriss Proctor scored twice for Navy, while Alexander Teich scored the other. Malcom Brown had one touchdown rushing and one touchdown receiving for Army. Steelman threw for one touchdown and rushed for another. Ultimately, Army committed too many turnovers to come away with the win.
Navy finishes the year 5-7, while Army finishes the year 3-9.

The Navy Midshipmen and the Army Black Knights are squaring off in the 112th meeting between the two teams. Navy is attempting to win their 10th straight game over the Knights but Army is staying right in the thick of things. At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Navy leads by a score of 24-21.
Navy opened the second half with a 48-yard drive ending in a Kriss Proctor rushing touchdown to take the lead, 21-14.
Both teams finally took to the air in the third quarter. Army knotted the score again when quarterback Trent Steelman found Malcolm Brown in the end zone for a 25 yard touchdown pass, the first score in the game to come via the air attack.
Quarterback Kriss Proctor, who is second among Navy rushers with 77 yard on 24 carries, aired out his first two pass attempts of the game on a drive in the third quarter, connecting on the second attempt with Gee Gee Greene to pick up 12 yards and a first down.
A costly false start on a goal line situation resulted in a 3rd-and-6 for Navy, who were then stuffed on a run and had to settle for a field goal.

The topsy-turvy 2011 Army-Navy Game continues. Just when Navy looked like it had seized momentum on the opening drive of the second half, Army struck right back with another strong drive that ended in surprising fashion. After running the ball pretty much all game, Army struck with a play-action pass, and Trent Steelman found Malcolm Brown for a 25-yard touchdown to tie the game at 21 with 9:45 remaining in the third quarter. It's Brown's second touchdown of the game, though the first one was a rushing touchdown.
The big play of the drive came when fullback Larry Dixon ran right up the middle through the teeth of the defense to get the ball down to the 25-yard line. One play later, Steelman expertly pulled off the play-action fake and found Brown right between the defenders in the middle of the field. Brown cut back up the middle and was easily able to walk into the end zone for the score.

The Navy Midshipmen made a major statement on the first drive of the second half of the 2011 Army-Navy Game. Alexander Teich returned the opening kickoff past midfield, and Navy eventually capped off a drive with a two-yard touchdown run for quarterback Kriss Proctor to take a 21-14 lead with 12:43 left in the third quarter. It's Proctor's second touchdown of the game.
It looked like Army had seized momentum in the game, as the Black Knights scored two late first-half touchdowns to tie the score at 14 entering halftime. But Teich's kickoff return got Navy going in the right direction. Navy got a first-down run on the first play on the drive, and Gee Gee Greene then ripped off a big run to put Navy inside the 10-yard line. Proctor dove forward on a second effort for the touchdown two plays later.

The Navy Midshipmen are looking for their 10th straight win over the Army Black Knights in Saturday's meeting between the two teams. Army is putting up a tougher fight than expected, as the score is tied 14-14 at halftime.
Navy controlled much of the first half of the game. They picked up the first score of the game with a four-yard rushing touchdown from Kriss Proctor with 1:06 left in the first quarter. Navy was later able to extend their lead to 14-0 with another rushing touchdown halfway through the second quarter, this one by Alexander Teich.
The Black Knights were able to get on the board with 3:34 left in the first half when quarterback Trent Steelman broke off a 34-yard touchdown run to get Army's scoring started and cut Navy's lead to 14-7. Steelman led Army on a long drive for a two-minute drill, culminating with another touchdown run, this one a five-yarder from Malcolm Brown as Army were able to knot the score at 14-14 with 0:49 left in the first half.
Both teams are keeping the ball out of the air as all three scores have come on rushing touchdowns. Navy is going with an exclusive ground attack in the game, as they have yet to throw a single pass attempt. Army likewise has only thrown two pass attempts, with QB Steelman picking up 48 yards on 6 carries.

Just when it looked like Navy would run away from Army in the 2011 Army-Navy Game, the Black Knights responded. Army methodically moved the ball up the field, did not fumble and eventually tied the score when quarterback Trent Steelman broke away from Navy defenders and ran it in for a 34-yard touchdown. Navy currently leads, 14-7, with 3:34 to play in the first half.
Army had experienced success against Navy's defense, but had shot itself in the foot with turnovers. Not this time. The Black Knights kept using the option to get upfield, then broke a big one when Steelman slipped between the tackles and cut outside. The Midshipmen defenders couldn't catch him and he scored easily.
It's Steelman's 12th rushing touchdown of the season. The Midshipmen will now look to respond and take command again before the first half ends.

Navy appears well on its way to win its 10th straight Army-Navy game. The Midshipmen benefited from another Army fumble and marched down the field, eventually cashing in on a 10-yard run by Alexander Teich to take a 14-0 lead with 7:05 remaining in the first half.
The Midshipmen recovered an Army fumble near midfield and immediately went to work. Kriss Proctor ripped off a big run on a designed pass to get the ball close to the 20-yard line. On third down, Teich caught an option pitch from Proctor to the outside and dove into the corner of the end zone for the touchdown.
Army has experienced some success moving the ball, but the Black Knights have been done in by turnovers. Both Navy touchdowns came directly after Army fumbles. It could have been even worse if the Midshipmen hadn't put the ball on the ground themselves in the first quarter when they were inside the Army 20-yard line.

The Navy Midshipmen are on the board first in the 112th edition of the Army-Navy Game at FedEx Field in Landover, Md. Quarterback Kriss Proctor ran it into the end zone from four yards out, and Navy leads, 7-0, with 1:06 remaining in the first quarter. Proctor had the opportunity to hand it off on the option, but read the play and decided to run it in himself.
The game has gotten off to a bit of a sloppy start. The Midshipmen were well on their way to scoring their first touchdown, but Proctor fumbled inside the red zone and Army recovered on the Navy 19-yard line. But only a couple plays later, the Black Knights gave it right back, putting the ball on the ground at the Navy 31-yard line. The Midshipmen scored shortly thereafter.
The Midshipmen were very close to missing the extra point, but it deflected off the upright and went through.

The Army Black Knights haven't beaten the Navy Midshipmen since the 2002 match up, and in that gap it has allowed Navy to overtake the rivalry game, leading the series 52-49. With the Mids having one of their worst seasons in quite a while, the Cadets will be looking to get back on the winning side. Bill Connely of SBNation.com takes a look from each side.
Bill goes on the examine if it has anything to do with the departure of Ricky Dobbs, but after looking at the numbers, it's easy to see that losing the longtime Navy quarterback wasn't the issue for the Mids, as senior Kriss Proctor has more than picked up the slack and the Navy offense has hummed right along. It's been Navy's defense that's caused the Mids to lose football games in 2011.
The defense, on the other hand, has been absolutely horrendous. A 3-4 defense will struggle when it doesn't have any linebackers, and in losing Tyler Simmons, Aaron McCauley, Jerry Hauburger and safety Wyatt Middleton, they were basically starting from scratch this season. After ranking 50th and 73rd in Def. F/+ in 2009-10, they have plummeted to 116th in 2011. It goes without saying that this is a precipitous drop.
For the Cadets on the other hand, they fell back to 3-8 after their first winning season since 1996 in 2010. Army's defensive woes are right along the lines with the Mids. Like the Mids however, their rushing offense is top notch running the triple option and that will be the problem for Army, as Bill explains.
They should by no means be able to stop Proctor, Teich, Greene and company, but their efficiency on offense could allow them to compete and stick around for a while. Despite missing three games with an ankle injury, quarterback Trent Steelman has rushed for 583 yards and 11 touchdowns, and he has two interesting weapons in Raymond Maples (984 yards, 7.4 per carry, four touchdowns) and Malcolm Brown (490 yards, 7.0 per carry, two touchdowns). Army is lacking in both explosiveness and any semblance of a passing game, however
The key for Army, as Bill notes, will be to "stick around" with the Mids. Since 2002, the Cadets have been blown out by the Mids in every game but one, a 17-3 loss in 2009. If Army wants to pull the upset and break the losing streak, they cannot get behind and they may be able to catch Navy on a down year, to get the momentum back on Army's side. Even with Navy being down however, the gap still isn't closed. While Navy sports a 4-9 record, all but a few of their losses have been by three points or less.

The Army Black Knights (3-8) and Navy Midshipmen (4-7) are set to square off Saturday, Dec. 10, for the 112th installment of their rivalry. Navy has won each of its last nine meetings with Army by an average of 25.7 points and by no fewer than 12, which helps to explain in part why the oddsmakers favor Navy by seven points in Saturday's contest, according to SB Nation partner OddsShark.
Navy opened the season with two victories, followed by a narrow defeat against the No. 10 South Carolina Gamecocks. That loss marked the first of six straight for the Midshipmen, who recovered in weeks nine and 10 to pull their record to 4-6. Their loss to the San Jose St. Spartans on Nov. 16, however, ended their hopes of earning a trip to a bowl game.
Army did not fare any better, winding the season down with five losses in its last six games, with the lone victory coming against the Fordham Rams of the FCS.
