Former Maryland basketball coach Gary Williams has talked about getting involved in television now that his coaching days are over. Here's a start: he will be an analyst for Comcast SportsNet during its coverage of the 2011 U.S. Open from Congressional Country Club next week. Here's the announcement.
Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic will present comprehensive coverage of the 111th U.S. Open Championship at Congressional Country Club from Monday, June 13, to Sunday, June 19. The extensive on-air programming and online content surrounding the event will be guided by the network's large stable of expert analysts, reporters and special guests, including former University of Maryland men's basketball coach Gary Williams.
Williams will be on location from Congressional from June 17-19 as an analyst, along with Chick Hernandez, Brent Harris, Kelli Johnson and Russ Thaler. This isn't exactly a new gig for Williams, because he has been a TV analyst for CSN during past AT&T National Tournaments, but it still is something as he begins his post-coaching career.
