Embattled Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth's misdemeanor sexual abuse trial could last well into the NFL preseason, according to a report by The Washington Post's Keith L. Alexander. Prosecutors have listed up to 10 possible witnesses they could call in order to convict Haynesworth of charges stemming from a Feb. 12 incident in which he allegedly fondled a cocktail waitress. 

Such a long witness list means the trial could be unusually lengthy for a misdemeanor charge, which could cause Haynesworth to miss several days of training camp if and when it resumes after the NFL lockout ends. The trial is scheduled to begin on August 23.

Whether the Redskins intend to keep Haynesworth, trade him or cut him, this latest development is bad news. The legal troubles will be sure to complicate any personnel moves involving the high-priced defender, and a sexual abuse trial is probably not the best way to improve a player's trade value.
