Washington Redskins wide receiver and kick returner Brandon Banks will sit out Friday's preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The speedy return specialist has a swollen left knee from running routes in practice, tweeted Washington Times Redskins reporter Rich Campbell:
"Brandon Banks will not play Fri b/c his problematic left knee swelled after running WR routes. Expect Terrence Austin to return KOs vs Indy "
This development could end up costing the diminutive Banks a spot on the Redskins' opening day roster. Banks was already at a disadvantage after the NFL marginalized kickoff returners by moving kickoffs to the 35-yard-line from the 30-yard-line, making it very easy for kickers to boot the ball through the back of the end zone and reducing a returner's potential impact on a given game.
Since Banks has played very little other than in the return game, the new rule along with this injury could mean his run with the Redskins is over.
