Diamondbacks Vs. Nationals Final: Washington Gives Arizona Diamondbacks Their Sixth Straight Loss With 4-1 Victory

After a wild weekend of walk-offs, Monday's Washington Nationals 4-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks almost seems sort of lackluster. The Nationals took control of the first game of a four game series and never looked back as strong pitching and good offense held the Snakes at bay.

Southpaw Ross Detwiler went six innings, giving up one run on six hits. He issued one walk and struck out three. Henry Blanco tagged him with a solo home run, but that was all the slack Detwiler would give Arizona while he was in the game. It is the second straight strong performance from the 2007 Nationals first rounder.

The bulk of the offense came from right fielder Jayson Werth who went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in the fourth. He also had a second inning double which allowed Jonny Gomes to drive him in with a RBI single for the first Nationals run of the game.

Reliever Drew Storen earned his 34th save of the season by shutting down the Diamondbacks in the ninth inning.

The Nats are now 62-64, two games under .500 and third in the NL East.
