Center Field Gate Opens Late For Diamondbacks Vs. Nationals Game Due To Earthquake

The D.C. earthquake from earlier on Tuesday has left the status of the game between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Washington Nationals in a state of flux. While both teams are currently at Nationals Park, the team has closed the center field gates until further notice, according to a press release. The team continues to inspect the stadium for any residue damage from the brief earthquake, which registered a 5.9 on the scale.

That throws the status of the game in doubt. Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post reports that Nationals officials believe the game will go on, but it all depends on baseball's inspection of the stadium. If it does occur, there is also a chance it is delayed, because the Diamondbacks' bus only arrived at the stadium at 5:15 p.m.

As of now, it would be a surprise if the game didn't take place, but then again, nobody expected an earthquake to hit Washington D.C.
