Alex Ovechkin To Throw Out First Pitch At Orioles Game Friday

Stay connected for news and updates

Via @BirdlandInsider, Washington Capitals forward and captain Alex Ovechkin will throw out the ceremonial first pitch Friday when the Baltimore Orioles host the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at Camden Yards. Ovechkin will be the second Cap to throw out a first pitch within the last week; John Carlson threw out the ceremonial first pitch for the Washington Nationals last Thursday.

There could be a correlation between Ovechkin's appearance at Camden Yards and the preseason game that the Caps will play in Baltimore September 20 against the Nashville Predators. Developing a fanbase in Baltimore seems to be high on the Caps' priority list in terms of community outreach, so having their biggest superstar throw out a first pitch for the Orioles can only help.

This will not be Ovechkin's first first pitch. In 2006, he threw out the first pitch for the Nationals and, like Carlson Thursday, made it over the plate with relative ease. Of course, no article about a Washington athlete throwing a first pitch is complete without watching Washington Wizards guard John Wall's horrific attempt. There definitely is a curve. No pun intended.
