The Caps returned to practice for the first time in 2012 without Alexander Semin, who was given a maintenance day, according to a team spokesman.
BALLSTON, Va. - The Washington Capitals held their first practice of 2012 Monday at Kettler Capitals Iceplex sans Alexander Semin, who was given a maintenance day, according to a team spokesman.
According to The Washington Post's Katie Carrera, Semin suffered a "deep cut on his right arm" during the Caps' 4-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets Saturday. A team spokesman, however, denied the report. Semin has 10 goals and 10 assists this season, but has heated up recently with five points (three goals, two assists) in his last three games.
After practice, head coach Dale Hunter said that Semin's status is uncertain for Tuesday's game against the Calgary Flames.
Without Semin, the Caps readjusted their forward lines accordingly:
Alex Ovechkin - Brooks Laich - Troy Brouwer
Marcus Johansson - Nicklas Backstrom - Mike Knuble
Jason Chimera - Jeff Halpern - Joel Ward
Matt Hendricks - Mathieu Perreault - Jay Beagle
