Bruins Vs. Capitals: Caps Holding Own Despite Being Down 1-0 After 20 Minutes

Stay connected for news and updates

Considering the circumstances that the Washington Capitals find themselves in Tuesday, they are holding their own against the defending Stanley Cup champions.

After not registering a shot on goal through the first six minutes of the game, the Caps came on hard, but it is the Bruins that hold a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.

The Bruins pressed on Tomas Vokoun throughout the period and could not get anything past him, but Karl Alzner did. Rich Peverly gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead at 17:46 when Alzner swiped at his centering pass from behind the goal line and swept it past Vokoun. It was Peverly's eighth goal of the season.

The Caps, without Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom and Mike Green, are doing what they can to muster offense. Mike Knuble has been the most energetic and productive, earning a shot on goal and two missed chances while also setting up his teammates and playing sound defense.

The Bruins have a 12-10 shot advantage over the Caps.
