Bulls Vs. Wizards Recap: Derrick Rose Leads Chicago To 98-88 Win Over John Wall And Washington

After getting their first road win of the season in Charlotte this weekend, the Washington Wizards returned home Monday to face one of the league's best teams in the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls came to town after a frustrating road loss to Miami on Sunday, and Derrick Rose was coming off two-straight 34 points games. Rose matched that total against the Wizards and then went further to set his season-high 35 points. He paced Chicago to a 98-88 win, with Washington competing until the final minute against the league's elite.

When the Wizards played in Chicago earlier this season, they set a franchise record low for points with 64 against Tom Thibodeau's defense. They fared better at home on Monday, as they fought back in the fourth quarter to force several Chicago turnovers and cut a large second half 20-point lead down to 10. Playing against Rose, John Wall led the Wizards with 20 points while Nick Young added 17. But the Wizards hit just three of 14 attempts from downtown, and Chicago was too much to handle on the offensive end.

The Wizards are now 4-17 and will travel to Orlando on Wednesday to face a Magic team that has lost five of six and is struggling to score 70 points in a game.

Bulls Vs. Wizards Score Update: Derrick Rose And Kyle Korver Build 11-Point Halftime Lead For Chicago

After one half at Verizon Center, the Washington Wizards trail the Chicago Bulls 51-40. The Bulls, one of the best teams in the league, are coming off a frustrating last minute loss in Miami and attacked Washington right from the jump. They raced out to a ten-point lead after the first 12 minutes, paced by reigning MVP Derrick Rose who finished the half seven of 12 from the floor and led all scorers with 16 points. Kyle Korver also got hot for Chicago, hitting four three-pointers and adding 14 points. The Wizards cut a 13-point Bulls lead in half as the second quarter wound down, but Korver would strike again and help build the lead back up to 11 at the break.

Washington played Chicago fairly even in the second, after Chicago shot nearly 60 percent from the floor in the first quarter. They have hit the glass, grabbing 11 offensive rebounds for some crucial second chance points. Facing off against Rose, John Wall leads the Wizards with 14 points but just one assist. Washington has knocked down their free throws to keep it relatively close, but will have to improve on their 32 percent mark from the field if they want to have a chance against one of the league's elite teams.

Richard Hamilton Injury: Rip Joins Luol Deng On Bench Vs. Wizards

Richard Hamilton will rest an injury to his groin and thigh on Monday night vs. the Wizards. Rip will stick to the bench along with fellow wing Luol Deng, who has missed the Bulls past four games with a wrist injury.

Hamilton aggravated the injury in a Sunday afternoon loss to the Miami Heat. The Bulls starters will be guard Derrick Rose, guard Ronnie Brewer, forward Kyle Korver, forward Carlos Boozer and center Joakim Noah.

With C.J. Watson a game-time decision, according to Chicago coach Tom Thibodeau, the Bulls could once again be lacking depth in the backcourt.

Of course, that wasn't an issue the last time a depleted Chicago faced the Wizards this season. On Jan. 11, John Lucas started in place of Derrick Rose and put up 28 shots en route to 25 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists to lead the Bulls to a 78-64 win in Chicago.

The Bulls have Derrick Rose back in the lineup tonight coming off a pair of critical missed free throws in that loss to Miami. In other words, tonight could be a decent chance to get Hamilton a rest.
