Redskins Vs. Buccaneers 2012: Washington steals spotlight, win from Tampa Bay

The Washington Redskins managed to defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 24-22 on Sunday thanks to a game-winning field goal by maligned kicker Billy Cundiff.

After missing three field goals earlier in the day, Cundiff was given the opportunity to make-up for his past failures thanks to an impressive drive by rookie phenom Robert Griffin III in the final two minutes of the game. The drive came immediately after Tampa Bay quarterback Josh Freeman led an impressive drive of his own, which gave Tampa Bay a 22-21 lead.

Ultimately, the Redskins managed to steal the spotlight and, most importantly, the win as their late drive outshined the Buccaneers late drive. SB Nation's Redskins' blog Hog's Haven noted that Griffin's final drive was made all the more impressive because the rookie quarterback was forced to execute it without the use of a headset.

SB Nation's Buccaneer's blog, Bucs Nation discussed the developing trend of the team losing close games.

This is quickly becoming a theme, as this is the model of a Greg Schiano team. Play hard-nosed defense, run the ball on offense, and win the close game in the fourth quarter. So far, though, that last aspect has been missing.

The Redskins will challenge another NFC South opponent when they host the undefeated Atlanta Falcons next Sunday at 1 p.m., ET.
