Kicker Nick Ferrara's season and career are over in College Park
Kicker Nick Ferrara's career is over at the University of Maryland, coach Randy Edsall said Thursday, as he is out for the season with a hip-tendon injury and will graduate this December.
Ferrara suffered the injury in preseason practice, creating an opening for true freshman Brad Craddock. Ferrara did not appear in a game this season.
For his career, Ferrara hit 30 of 45 field goals, including a career-long 50-yarder as a freshman. Ferrara missed just one extra point in 54 tries.
As a freshman Ferrara earned the top placekicking position but lost it in his sophomore season, in which he did not attempt a field goal. As a junior, Ferrara took over all three phases of the kicking game, including punting. He made 12 of 20 field goal attempts in 2011.
In his place, Craddock has hit 4 of 7 field goals this season, including a 52-yard score in the win over Wake Forest last week. Craddock also shanked an extra point in the game, proving that he's a work in progress.
