Billy Cundiff's tenure as a member of the Washington Redskins has come to an end after just five games in uniform. Grant Paulsen of 106.7 The Fan reported that Cundiff had been released by the team following the signing of former UCLA and Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker Kai Forbath.

Cundiff made all 17 extra points he attempted for Washington, but his record on field goals was a dismal 7-for-12. The lowlight was a 1-for-4 performance in Week 4's 24-22 win over Tampa Bay, which Cundiff actually won with a 41-yard field goal in the final seconds.

Last Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, Cundiff went 1-for-2 on field goal attempts. The miss came from 31 yards away, a seemingly easy kick which would have put the Redskins up 10-0. Instead, Atlanta was able to march down the field and tie the score 7-7 entering halftime.

After the game, Cundiff gave the impression that his miss didn't matter much.

You look at the final score, and obviously even if I would've made that field goal, we still would've needed four more points," Cundiff said. "So it's one of those things that you obviously would've needed two more field goal attempts beyond that.

For SB Nation's Redskins blog, Hogs Haven, that quote was the last straw.

I mean. Wow. The followup question I would have loved to ask would have been, "So, going up 10-0 at home is just as good as missing a FG, seeing an undefeated team celebrate, and then going 60 some yards for a touchdown to make it 7-3?"
