Wes Brown Injury: Maryland RB out indefinitely

Howard Smith-US PRESSWIRE

Maryland Terrapins running back Wes Brown will receive surgery on his shoulder Friday and will miss the rest of the season.

Maryland Terrapins running back Wes Brown will receive surgery on his injured labrum Friday and is out for the rest of the season, Maryland coach Randy Edsall announced on Thursday.

Brown sat out last week’s game against the Clemson Tigers with an ankle injury. Edsall decided to shut Brown down for the season, stating that he would need season-ending surgery at the season’s end anyways. The freshman running back will also miss spring ball recovering from the surgery.

Brown had emerged as the team’s top running back this season and is one of their key freshmen. The tailback received 90 carries this season, rushing for 382 yards and two touchdowns. Brown played particularly well against the N.C. State Wolfpack, running for 121 yards and one touchdown on 25 carries.

Freshman Brandon Ross is the team’s second-leading rusher on the season, and performed well in Brown’s absence against Clemson. Ross ran for 100 yards on 16 carries versus the Tigers, and should receive the bulk of the carries the rest of the year.
