Maryland vs. Georgia Tech Scoring Update: Little Hope for the Terps, Jackets Lead 6-0 After First

Maryland's offense has been worse than stagnant, and the Terps' defense allowed a late long drive to Georgia Tech to give the Yellow Jackets an early 6-0 lead in College Park.

After a Georgia Tech punt, Shawn Petty got the chance for his first drive at quarterback. After being sacked, he handed the ball of to Wes Brown for a yard, and then ran himself for four more. Maryland punted, and the dangerous Jamal Golden looked on the way for a big return, after making the first tackler miss. Tyrek Cheeseboro caught up with Golden from behind, stripping the ball out, and Sean Davis recovered for the Terrapins.

After the Terps were forced to punt again, the Yellow Jackets went to work. Robert Godhigh ran for a 12-yard first down, Orwin Smith ran for 16 yards on fourth-and-three, and Tevin Washington ran five yards on third-and-one at the ten to set up a goal-line situation. Washington punched it in two plays later with a one-yard touchdown, and the Yellow Jackets took a 6-0 lead after a missed extra point attempt.

On Maryland's next drive, Shawn Petty ran seven yards to set up a third-and-short, but fumbled, giving the ball away to end the quarter.

The Terps have 14 yards of total offense, all on the ground, with a fumble. The Yellow Jackets also have a fumble, but have 106 yards of total offense, with 101 coming on the ground. if this output continues, it looks like it will be a long day for Maryland.
