Virginia vs. NC State score: Cavaliers lead 23-0 after three quarters

Stay connected for news and updates

The Virginia Cavaliers are just 15 minutes away from their first ACC win in 2012, as Virginia currently leads the N.C. State Wolfpack, 23-0.

Virginia took a 16-0 lead into halftime, thanks to two first quarter touchdowns and a safety. The Cavaliers missed an opportunity at the end of the first half to extend their lead to 19-0, when Ian Frye missed a 23-yard field goal, but Virginia kept the pressure on in the second half.

Phillip Sims connected with Tim Smith for a 38-yard touchdown pass early in the third quarter, giving the Cavaliers a commanding 23-0 lead over the Wolfpack.

Sims and Michael Rocco have been part of a tag-team attack at quarterback for Virginia. Sims has completed 7-of-9 passes for 111 yards and a touchdown, and also added a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

Rocco started the game 4-of-4 passing, but is now just 12-of-21 for 83 yards and a touchdown.

Virginia's defense, as a shutout would indicate, has played exceptionally well, forcing three turnovers, while holding the Wolfpack to just 18 yards rushing through the first three quarters.
