Stay connected for news and updates

Virginia Tech Hokies safety Michael Cole was taken off the field in an ambulance in the third quarter of Thursday night's game against the Florida State Seminoles.

After being driven off the field in the ambulance, a team physician confirmed a few minutes later that the injury sustained was a neck sprain but that Cole did have feeling in his hands.

The injury was sustained in the early portion of the third quarter with Florida State on offense. Cole, the 6'1, 199-pound freshman from Roanoka, Va., has two interceptions for the Hokies this season, as the team is struggling through a 4-5 overall record and 2-3 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

At the time the injury was sustained, the Hokies were trailing the Seminoles, 13-10, as Florida State scored in the closing minute of the first half to reclaim the lead following a late Virginia Tech touchdown pass from quarterback Logan Thomas.
