Old Dominion's FCS playoff run ended Saturday with a 49-35 loss to Georgia Southern.
The semifinals of the FCS playoffs are set, and the Old Dominion Monarchs will not be a part of it. On Saturday, the team's season ended with a 49-35 loss to Georgia Southern at S.B. Ballard Stadium in Norfolk, VA.
The No. 5-seeded Eagles (10-3) scored 28 fourth-quarter points to rally and down the fourth-seeded Monarchs (11-2). The victory helped Georgia Southern advance to the semifinals, where it will meet the top-seeded and defending national champions North Dakota State next weekend at the Fargodome in Fargo, N.D.
The winner of the semifinal showdown will face either the No. 2-seeded Eastern Washington Eagles or the Sam Houston St. Bearkats in the FCS national championship game.
On Friday, the Bearkats (10-3) easily defeated Montana State, 34-16, while on Saturday the Eagles (11-2) downed Illinois State, 51-35.
The FCS championship game will be played Jan. 5 at 1 p.m. ET in Frisco, TX. North Dakota State is looking to become the first back-to-back champion since Appalachian State won in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
