St. John's Vs. Georgetown, Score Update: Hoyas Take A Five-Point Lead After One Half At Verizon Center

The St. John's Red Storm, losers of seven of their last nine games, hung around with the Georgetown Hoyas in the first half of their Sunday matinee matchup at Verizon Center. The Hoyas are looking to bounce back from their overtime loss to Syracuse, and lead 31-26 at halftime. It wasn't the highest-scoring half this rivalry has seen over the years, but both teams closed out the first twenty minutes with momentum on the offensive end.

Mid way through the first half, Georgetown had gone over five minutes without a field goal as St. John's closed to within a point with under eight minutes to play. But Hollis Thompson and Henry Sims went on a two-man run, scoring 11 of the Hoyas next 12 points to pick up the pace on the offensive end. Thompson led Georgetown with seven points while Sims finished with four, after he picked up two early fouls and was sent to the bench. Otto Porter and Greg Whittington added five points off the bench and Nate Lubick was extremely active early in the game, grabbing five rebounds and dishing three assists.

D'Angelo Harrison led the Red Storm with a game-high ten points. Late in the first, he was poked in the eye and had to go to the bench to be looked at by the trainers. The left eye had already started to swell up and sat out the final minute and a half before both teams went to the locker room. The Red Storm will need the point guard back on the floor if they want to pull off the upset.
