Sharks Vs. Capitals: Yet Another Long Goal Has Caps Trailing 1-0

Note to the Washington Capitals' opponents: shoot from the red line.

Joe Pavelski's 69-foot tip-in goal has the San Jose Sharks in the lead as they hold a 1-0 advantage after 20 minutes.

At 12:12, Dan Boyle fired what seemed like a harmless clearing attempt into their offensive zone. Yet, Pavelski tipped the puck, changing its trajectory towards the net. Surprise starter Braden Holtby went to make the glove save, but the puck tipped off the top of the glove and into the back of the net. It was Pavelski's 21st goal of the season.

Thursday, Dustin Byfuglien scored from 87 feet away in the Winnipeg Jets' 3-2 shootout win over the Caps. Michal Neuvirth has also allowed similar goals against the Colorado Avalanche and Florida Panthers.

Despite that, Holtby made 10 saves. Thomas Greiss made 12 for the Sharks.
