Head coach Dale Hunter expressed his feelings about his recent decisions to bench Mike Knuble and start Braden Holtby Monday.

BALLSTON, Va. - Washington Capitals head coach Dale Hunter shared his thoughts on his team's recent slide, punctuated by a 5-3 loss to the San Jose Sharks Monday, the Caps' eighth loss in their last 11 games.

On Mike Knuble being scratched for a third consecutive game Monday:

"We follow stats. He hasn't got a points in the last 11 games or 10 games that he played, so he was a minus player. Basically, that's what it was."

On when Knuble will return to Washington's lineup:

"You know he will. Eventually. It's a game-time decision. It's always who plays the best and who doesn't play well. We'll watch tape and bring new faces in."

On his decision to start Braden Holtby at Michal Neuvirth's expense Monday:

It's one of those things where if he was standing on his head every night, would Braden be playing? No."
