Stay connected for news and updates

The Washington Capitals have recalled forward Keith Aucoin from AHL Hershey.

Aucoin, 33, is the AHL's leading scorer with 70 points, including a league-leading 59 assists. He is only 13 assists shy of tying a career high and only 30 from tying the AHL's all-time single season record (89). Aucoin is a four-time AHL All-Star and was the league's 2009-10 leading scorer and MVP with 35 goals, 71 assists and 106 points.

Despite such impressive numbers, Aucoin has only played in 75 career NHL games with Washington and the Carolina Hurricanes; he has 25 points (eight assists, 17 assists) in those games.

Aucoin will join the Caps for practice Friday at Kettler Capitals Iceplex and will wear No. 23. In his previous call-ups, Aucoin has worn No. 20, but that number is taken by Troy Brouwer.

To make room for Aucoin, the Capa sssigned Cody Eakin to AHL Hershey.
