Notre Dame Vs. Georgetown Recap: Hoyas Dominate Fighting Irish On The Defensive End

The Georgetown Hoyas, perhaps the best defensive team in the Big East, ramped up their defensive pressure on Monday night and cruised to a Senior night win over a ranked Notre Dame team. The Hoyas held the Irish to just 33 percent from the floor and a measly 41 points, enjoying a comfortable double digit lead for much of the second half. It ended at 59-41, as seniors Henry Sims and Jason Clark were given a rousing ovation in their final home game.

While it was largely won on the defensive side of the ball, Sims and Clark led the Hoyas on the offensive end. Clark was five of seven from the floor and finished with 13 points and six rebounds. Clark has been the heart and soul of this team and the Hoyas will go as far as he leads them. Sims, meanwhile, finished with 12 points, six rebounds, and five assists as the big man rejuvenated his career in his final season as a Hoya.

While the seniors were celebrated in their final game, it was freshman Greg Whittington who lead all scorers with a game-high 15 points. Freshman Otto Porter led Georgetown with an impressive all-around floor game on Saturday against Villanova, and tonight it was freshman comrade Whittington. The future is bright for John Thompson III.

Notre Dame has played well all season in the Big East so this was an impressive and convincing home win on the same day the Hoyas dropped in the rankings. Georgetown now finishes the season this Saturday against another ranked opponent in Marquette, as both teams fight for seeding and a double bye in the Big East tournament.
