The Washington Capitals withstood a late flurry from the Boston Bruins to emerge with a much-needed 4-3 win and two points. Alexander Semin had a goal and assist in the game, and Tomas Vokoun was stellar in net, especially in the third period when the Capitals goaltender stopped 12 of the 13 shots he faced. For the game, Vokoun made 30 saves on 33 shots faced.
Dmitry Orlov added two assists for Washington, and Matt Hendricks, Brooks Laich and Jay Beagle nothced goals for the Capitals. The win keeps Washington in the Eastern Conference playoff picture, where they currently hold the eighth spot.
The Bruins made it close late in the third period on Johnny Boychuk's fifth goal of the season, but Vokoun turned away multiple good looks for the Bruins in the waning moments to secure the win for Washington.

Five minutes into the second period, Boston Bruin Brad Marchand tied the game 2-2 with the Washington Capitals, but Dale Hunter's club responded with two more second period goals and now lead 4-2 entering the third period.
The first goal of the period came on a beautiful feed from Alexander Semin in the corner to Jay Beagle, positioned in front of the net. It was just the second goal of the season for Beagle.
Washington also finally capitalized on a power play opportunity, with Brooks Laich chipping the puck past Tim Thomas for the 4-2 lead at the 17:31 mark of the period. It was Laich's fifth power play goal of the season.
Tomas Vokoun has been solid between the pipes, stopping 18 of 20 Bruins shots.

The Washington Capitals, desperately in need of victories and points, got off to a great start Saturday in their matchup with the Boston Bruins. The Capitals lead the Bruins 2-1, scoring both of their goals in a 25 second span.
Alexander Semin scored his 18th goal of the year at the 7:50 mark of the first period. Karl Alzner assisted on the Semin goal. A mere 25 seconds later, Matt Hendricks netted his fourth goal of the season, with assists cedited to Troy Brouwer and Dmitry Orlov.
Washington will be kicking themselves at the intermission, however, after allowing Boston to score with just 5.6 seconds left in the period. Milan Lucic beat Tomas Vokoun for his 23rd goal of the year.
With the exception of the Lucic goal, Tomas Vokoun has been excellent in net in the first period, stopping all 12 of the 13 Bruins shots faced.
