Jets Vs. Capitals Recap: Winnipeg Scores Four Unanswered Goals For 4-3 Overtime Win

In one of the biggest games of the season, the Washington Capitals gave away a 3-0 lead and fell to the Winnipeg Jets 4-3 in an overtime loss at Verizon Center. The Jets completed titled the ice over the final 20 minutes, out-working the Caps and applying constant pressure on goaltender Michal Neuvirth. The Jets out-shot the Capitals 17-2 in the third period before finally breaking through with just under four minutes remaining.

Spencer Machacek evened it up and a diving shot in front that went right past a sliding Neuvirth. It was a tough goal to take after Neuvirth had held off the constant pressure in the period to that point. In overtime, Tim Stapleton scored the game-winner mid-way through the extra session. After that dominant third period, the Jets finished with 19 more shots on goal. The Jets are now four points behind the Caps for the eighth spot in the playoffs, with the Sabres now even in the standings with 82 points.

Jets Vs. Capitals: Jets Counter Alex Ovechkin's Two Goals With Two, Trail 3-2

Alex Ovechkin scored two goals, but so did the Winnipeg Jets.

Ovechkin's pair gave the Washington Capitals a 3-0 lead, but two quick strikes have the Jets only trailing 3-2 after 40 minutes.

The first of Ovechkin's goals came at 1:42 when he took a pass from Brooks Laich, curled into the offensive zone, used his defender as a screen and beat Ondrej Pavelec with a vintage goal, his 34th of the season. About four minutes later, as an extra attacker, Ovechkin rifled a snap shot past Pavelec for his 35th goal. He now has eight goals in his last six games.

Winnipeg, however, did not falter. Ben Maxwell and Bryan Little scored within 1:11 to cut a 3-0 deficit to 3-2.

Shots are in favor of 23-21 in favor of the Jets, who have the Caps on their heels.

Jets Vs. Capitals: Jason Chimera's Goal Gives Caps 1-0 Lead

The Washington Capitals suffered from missed opportunities during their 2-1 shootout loss to the Philadelphia Flyers Thursday. It seemed that those same misses were coming back to haunt them Friday against the Winnipeg Jets until Jason Chimera finally broke through.

Chimera's career-high 18th goal of the season has given the Caps a 1-0 lead over the Jets after 20 minutes.

After a back-and-forth period that saw both teams get their chances, Chimera scored the only goal of the period at 16:06. Chimera took a pass from Jeff Halpern and utilized his speed to burst down center ice before beating Ondrej Pavelec with a backhand.

Michal Neuvirth, on his 24th birthday, earned the start for Washington and has made eight saves so far.

Jets Vs. Capitals: Washington Returns Home To Host Winnipeg

The Washington Capitals suffered a difficult shootout loss to the Flyers on Thursday night, but they'll return home on Friday to host the Winnipeg Jets. The game starts at 7 pm and can be found on CSN.

The Jets are a pretty good team record-wise, but they are also pretty vulnerable on the defensive end, where they are 23rd in the NHL in terms of goals allowed per game. The Capitals have enough offensive weapons to exploit that, and if they are playing well, they should be favored in this game, particularly at home.
