Wild Vs. Capitals Game Preview: Caps Look To Bounce Back

The Washington Capitals look to get back into the playoff picture when they take on a struggling Minnesota Wild squad Sunday evening.

The Washington Capitals (37-30-8) will look to rebound against the Minnesota Wild (30-33-10) Sunday evening in Washington, and get back into the playoff picture.

The Caps got their three-game homestand off on the wrong foot Friday night, when they blew a 3-0 lead against the Winnipeg Jets and fell 4-3 in overtime. The loss was a tough one to swallow for the Caps, who now sit in 9th place in the Eastern Conference with 92 points, two behind the 8th place Buffalo Sabres.

For the Caps to pick up the win, they will need to see Alexander Ovechkin continue his hot streak. He has eight goals in the teams last six games, and has carried the team offensively.

The Wild come in to tonight's game stumbling through the second half of the season. After a torrid start, they are just 11-26-7 since December 10. They come in averaging a league-low 2.06 goals per game, which should help out the struggling Capitals defense.

This is the first time the Wild have visited Washington since November 13, 2009. The Capitals won that contest 3-1. Puck drop is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Verizon Center, and the game is being carried nationally on NBC Sports Network.
