Wild Vs. Capitals Final Score: Washington Holds On For 3-0 Win

Overcoming a slow start and 20 giveaways, the Washington Capitals were able to pull out a win against the struggling Minnesota Wild by the score of 3-0 at the Verizon Center Sunday evening. The Capitals were able to pull out the win despite being outshot by the Wild 28-23.

After taking a 2-0 lead into the second period, the Capitals were able to add an insurance goal when Alex Ovechkin scored 36th goal of the season from Marcus Johansson and John Carlson at the 8:31 mark of the period.

Much of the credit for the win goes to back-up goalie Braden Holtby who stopped all 28 shots he faced. The Capitals also did a great job staying out of the penalty box, as they only had to go shorthanded twice all evening.

The Capitals next game is a critical matchup with the Buffalo Sabres Tuesday night in Washington. The two teams are currently tied for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
