Flyers Vs. Capitals Final Score: Washington's Scoreless Streak Continues As Flyers Win 1-0

Ilya Bryzgalov stopped 34 shots as the Philadelphia Flyers handed the Washington Capitals their second straight shutout loss by the score of 1-0 Sunday night at the Verizon Center.

The loss extended Washington's scoreless streak to 120 minutes dating back to Alex Ovechkin's game-winning goal in overtime against the New York Islanders Tuesday night.

Eric Wellwood scored the only goal of the game with 7:51 gone in the second period as he redirected Pavel Kubina's point shot past Michael Neuvirth, who made 22 saves in taking the hard-luck loss.

Washington outshot the Flyers in every period, but simply could not find a way past Bryzgalov as he denied multiple scoring opportunities. Philadelphia finished the game off with a masterful final minute of forechecking as the Caps couldn't even advance the puck past the red line despite pulling Neuvirth for an extra skater.

The loss dropped Washington five points behind the Florida Panthers for first place in the Southeast Division. Florida defeated Ottawa 4-2 earlier Sunday in Sunrise, Fla. Washington remains a point behind the Winnipeg Jets in the race for the 8th and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, though the Capitals do have a game in hand on the Jets, who next play at home against the Buffalo Sabres Monday night.
