2012 MEAC Tournament: Florida A&M Upsets Coppin State In Final Game Of First Round

The no.11 seeded Florida A&M Rattlers pulled off an upset in the final game of the first round of the MEAC tournament in Winston-Salem, defeating Coppin State 74-71. The Rattlers scored four points in the final thirty seconds to stage a last minute comeback and seal the three-point win.

Avery Moore and Amin Stevens led the Rattler attack, scoring 19 points a piece. Moore did his damage from outside, hitting four of five three-pointers. Florida A&M was on fire from outside, shooting 60 percent from three-point range to carry them to victory. Stevens did his damage on the inside, grabbing 10 boards while scoring his 19 points primarily in the paint.

Coppin State got key contributions from Akeem Ellis and Tony Gallo, who both broke the 20-point mark. Ellis nailed six three-pointers to answer every punch thrown by A&M, but the Eagles simply could not get a stop in the final thirty seconds as their one-point lead slipped away.

Florida A&M now faces Delaware State at 6:00 PM Thursday.
