NCAA Lacrosse Rankings 2012: Loyola's Loss To Johns Hopkins Drops Greyhounds Out Of Top Spot

The Loyola Greyhounds stayed at the No. 1 ranking for two weeks until the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays defeated them on Saturday 10-9 in overtime. That loss dropped Loyola to No. 3 in the current /Nike/Inside Lacrosse NCAA Top 20 poll. Johns Hopkins went up three spots to No. 8 in this weeks rankings.

The Virginia Cavaliers and the Maryland Terrapins both stayed at No. 6 and No. 9 respectively. The Cavaliers defeated Pennsylvania on Friday, 10-8, while the Terrapins defeated Bellarmine of Louisville, Ky. on Saturday, 12-7. Both Georgetown and Navy also received votes in this weeks polls.

The new No. 1 in the rankings is the University of Massachusetts, who finished an undefeated regular season after defeating Delaware 17-6 on Friday. The only other team to receive first place votes was Notre Dame who sits right behind UMass at No. 2. Duke and North Carolina round out the top five at No. 4 and 5 respectively.
