NBA Standings 2012: Wizards Remain In Standings Abyss

The Washington Wizards, losers of five games in a row, continue to sink deeper into the standings abyss with each passing game, but the good (tepid?) news is that with each enthusiasm-sapping loss Washington (12-44) earns more chances in the 2012 NBA Draft Lottery.

The Wizards played four games last week, losing on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings. Washington lost by less than double digits in just one of those games, a 99-94 defeat at the hands of the Detroit Pistons, and even in that game the Wiz trailed by 20 points.

Washington has 10 games remaining in the season, split between home and road contests. Charlotte is on that slate twice, as are the Cleveland Cavaliers. It is possible the Wizards might actually pick up a win or two before the season ends, ultimately altering their 2012 draft fate, thus being a "very Wiz" thing to do.

The 2012 Wizards Final Ten begin Monday night in Charlotte, tip off scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET.

Wizards Vs. Nets Recap: Washington Loses Ugly In New Jersey, 110-98

The Washington Wizards no-showed in New Jersey on Friday night, and they were blown out by the Nets 110-98. While the Nets are a fellow lottery team, the Wizards were on the second night of a back-to-back and playing again without Nene and Trevor Booker in the frontcourt. New Jersey led by 20 points for much of the second half before a late run by the Wizards cut it to 12, but the game had long been decided.

Kevin Seraphin continues to produce on the inside, scoring 15 points and grabbing nine rebounds against the Nets front line. The only other Wizard to score more than Seraphin was John Wall, who finished with 18 points. His counterpart, Deron Williams, finished with 19 points but also added 13 assists. The Nets got easy buckets straight from the jump, and shot better than 55 percent from the floor on the evening.

Wounded and weary, the Wizards will now have the weekend off before playing in Charlotte on Monday against the Bobcats.

Wizards Vs. Nets Score Update: Washington Struggling In Jersey, Trails By 14 At Half

The Washington Wizards, playing on the second night of a road back-to-back in New Jersey, trail the Nets 57-43 after one half at the Prudential Center. The Wizards shot just 39 percent from the field in the first half and could not stop the Nets on the other end. Gerald Wallace and Deron Williams lead the Nets in double-figures, and as a team, they shot 57 percent from the floor.

Washington, on the other hand, does not have a player in double figures, playing without Trevor Booker and Nene in the frontcourt yet again. John Wall finished the half with nine points but has also committed three turnovers in his tough matchup against the All-Star Williams. No other Wizard has more than five points. It's the last month of the season, and with injuries on the second night of a back-to-back, Washington is struggling to be competitive.
