The No. 5 seed Virginia Cavaliers open the 2012 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championships on Sunday afternoon when they host the Princeton Tigers at Klockner Stadium. This is Virginia's 35th appearance in the tournament, second all-time behind only Johns Hopkins. The Cavaliers are the defending national champions, and have advanced to at least the semifinal round in each of the last four seasons.
Princeton returns to the NCAA Championship field after a one year absence. The Tigers were one of nine at-large selections to the tournament after winning the Ivy League title courtesy of a 6-0 mark in league play. Before missing last year's championships, Princeton had made the tournament every year from 1990-2010.
The winner of this matchup will face the winner of the Notre Dame and Yale game.
