University Of Maryland Unveils Design Of New Byrd Stadium Field

The University of Maryland set forth to re-design the football field in Byrd Stadium which led to rampant speculation on what the field could look like. There were some rumors and speculation that the field could be as extreme as the recent set of Terrapins' football uniforms, potentially a black or pewter colored field.

Unfortunately, the Maryland football field design looks surprisingly normal.

The field will also have cooling technology that will be able to regulate temperatures on those steamy Maryland fall afternoons. The endzone designs appear to feature the crest design of the state of Maryland, like the football uniforms have at times. The field will also be synthetic turf in lieu of real grass with what looks like alternating shades of green every 10 yards.

Maryland Denies Report That School Will Install 'Black or Pewter' Turf Field

A Maryland spokesperson is disputing reports that the school has chosen a color for the new turf field going in at Capitol One Field at Byrd Stadium according to Washington Post writer Dan Steinberg.

Steinberg posted in his article, that various mock designs have been circulating around the Internet in recent days theorizing what the new field could possibly look like. All that the university is willing to confirm is that construction on the new field is underway at this moment and that it will be ready in time for the start of the new football season.

Maryland To Lay Black Or Pewter Turf At Byrd Stadium, According To Report

While it has been confirmed that Byrd Stadium, the University of Maryland's football stadium, will be fitted with synthetic turf to replace the grass it has had since 1950, a new report from WUSA9 is suggesting that the turf will be a color other than the conventional, pseudo-natural green.

According to Omar Mohammed: "A source within the program told me that the turf being applied to the field will be either black or pewter." A dark-colored field would match up with this computer-generated image of the new Byrd Field turf that has been making its way around the Internet.

The laying of a black-or-pewter field has yet to be confirmed, and it has not been reported anywhere else as of now.
