2012 NHL Entry Draft: Washington Capitals Receive 54th Overall Pick From Colorado Avalanche

The Washington Capitals have received the 54th pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft from the Colorado Avalanche as the final piece of compensation from the 2011 trade in which the Caps sent goalie Semyon Varlamov to the Avs as first reported by Stephen Whyno of The Washington Post.

The Capitals also received the Avalanche's first round pick for 2012 which is the 11th overall selection in the draft. The Capitals now have three picks in the first 54 selections as they also have the 16th overall selection from their finish in the regular season. The Capitals have 11 total picks for the draft, which is more than any other team in the league.

The 2012 NHL Entry Draft is scheduled for June 22 and 23 in Pittsburgh, Pa.
