The Washington Nationals could not come close to touching one of baseball's hottest teams, as the New York Yankees took down the Nats to complete a three-game sweep 4-1 Sunday afternoon at Nationals Park.

Edwin Jackson gave the Nats the solid start they needed with six innings allowing seven hits three walks and two runs while striking out one. The only problem was that Yankees starter Ivan Nova was better, going 7.2 innings allowing one run on seven hits and just one walk while striking out four.

The Yanks opened scoring in the top of the first when Mark Texiera hit a sac fly to make the score 1-0. The Nats countered with their only run in the game in the bottom of the second when Adam LaRoche hit his 12th home run of the year.

New York took control of the game in the middle innings, with Curtis Granderson and Robinson Cano hitting solo home runs in the fifth and seventh innings respectively. Later in the seventh, the Yanks would get their fourth run when Andruw Jones drew a bases-loaded walk.
