The 2012 NHL Entry Draft is following up a wild Friday night of selections and trades with a furious run of picks on Saturday. With rounds two through seven set to take place during the day, teams are already into the fifth round before lunchtime, with Washington just making their choice in the fifth round, the 137th pick overall.

#Caps go to the USNDP team again at pick No. 137, taking defenseman Connor Carrick. Good puck mover, right-handed shot.

Carrick is the first defenseman taking by Washington in this year's draft. This is the second member of the United States' Under-18 Development squad that the Capitals have selected in the 2012 draft. The first was center Thomas Di Pauli, taking in the fourth round with the 100th overall pick.
